I am very proud and honoured to have been elected as your Chairman of Chinnor Youth Football Club. Bernie Braun gave many committed years to this club and he will be a hard act to follow.
I first became interested in the club when my son began playing under Colin Bird two years ago and decided that when the role came up as Chairman it would give me a chance to give something back to this very successful club.
This club has continued to grow from strength to strength through hard work not only by the players but the many dedicated volunteers that allow our children to play in a safe and enjoyable environment. Many hours a week are freely given to support this club and our children; they all deserve our highest praise.
I also have a very hardworking and dedicated team around me. The committee also carry out many hours of work behind the scenes to make sure this club runs as smoothly as possible. I have only been in place a couple of months but already it is very clear just how much work goes on from meetings that are attended weekly.
Like all of you I am very much looking forward to the new season starting and I hope to be able to get round all the teams to watch the children play over the next few months. The games I have seen clearly show some outstanding talent and exciting times ahead. Again this is down to managers, helpers and parents that week in week out give up their time to support our children. They all do a fantastic job and the smiles and enjoyment shown on the children’s faces says it all.
Many hours are spent marking out pitches and cutting grass again another team of dedicated people.
In the last couple of months I have met some very supportive people involved with this club and village, we may not always get it right, but we will always act in the best interests of the children and the club and I very much look forward to working with you and for you in the future.
Please continue to support CYFC and if you have any ideas for fundraising or are interested in sponsorship for the club or just wish to speak to a member of the committee we look forward to hearing from you. How to contact us is listed on the improved website www.chinnoryouthfc.co.uk (again looked after by a volunteer) please take a look. You can find team news, dates of interest, fundraising events and club news.
Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
